Poets in Putney is all about being relaxed, informal, and inclusive. Whether you’re an amateur, a professional, or just poetry-curious, you’re welcome here. Some people join us to perform, others to listen - either way, the atmosphere is warm, supportive, and inspiring.

On the night, I host and call up performers for their slot. Each poet has up to five minutes to share their work - reading from paper, a phone, or from memory. There’s no theme, just space for authentic voices and a variety of styles, from tender and heartfelt to bold and experimental.

This is an open mic, so poems may range from funny and romantic to powerful and raw. Performers are encouraged to give content warnings where needed and the audience is welcome to step out at any time if they need a breather.

Not ready to perform yet? That’s completely fine - plenty of people start by coming along to watch. Many have found that simply being in the room gives them the confidence to step up in the future.

Accessibility is important to us. Putney Library Hall is wheelchair accessible, with step-free access, accessible toilets and seating for all guests. The space is calm, welcoming and low-stimulation, with no flashing lights or loud music.

Whether you come to speak, listen or just soak up the creative energy, Poets in Putney is a place to connect with others who share a love of words.
